ENROLMENT

Haumoana school is one of a minority of schools in the Hastings/Napier area without an enrolment zone- so there is no waiting list for ballots!

We are within easy drive distance of both cities and 5 minutes from Clive, less than 10 minutes from Havelock North.

We welcome new enrolments and we invite parents to make an appointment to view our school in action and to discuss how we can best support their child’s learning.

Our transition to school support allows children to meet their future classmates, introduces parents and teachers and gives your child a chance to get a feel for school days.

Children may attend school from the age of 5 years and parents will need to complete an enrolment form (we suggest you complete the forms prior to your child’s start date)  and show a Birth Certificate as verification of date of birth for the ENROL Ministry database and as a back-up system for the Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages.  Please note: Children are not legally able to start school before their fifth birthday, and must be enrolled before they are 6. We take many enrolments from tamariki whose families choose for them to start school after age 5.

We look forward to working with you to help your child have the best possible educational experience and for you and your family to become part of the Haumoana School community.

New entrants

Starting school is an important milestone in a child’s life and like you, we want the transition from preschool to school to be a smooth and positive one.

We value the experiences and knowledge the children bring to school.

To make the transition as smooth as possible, we hold visit mornings for your child. There can be as many visits as a child needs, most need one or two.

The school visits occur a few weeks prior to your child starting school.  As your child is nearing turning five, the New Entrant teacher will contact you to arrange dates for these visits. These are normally in the mornings between 9:00 and 11:00 am. Parents can stay and to join in with the class learning, and we encourage parents to take themselves to the staffroom for a coffee/tea as soon as they can see their child is comfortable. We encourage your child to wear their school uniform on their visits, although this is not compulsory.

These visits enable students to become familiar with the school grounds and classroom setting, meet other future five-year-olds and their families and build relationships with the teachers. Students will also participate in a range of activities and experiences designed to give your child an idea of what to expect when they begin school.
